Australia’s turbo-charged motoring culture has always been a high-octane affair — a nation of rev-heads who drive, polish, debate and defend their favourite machines with the passion of a pit crew on race day. And nothing fires up the engines quite like the legendary rivalry between Holden and Ford — or Ford and Holden, depending on which team colours you wear. It’s a contest that’s run longer than the gruelling Bathurst track itself.
Visit the Mint and view our Pedal to the Metal display, which highlights our beloved historic collection of motor-themed coins. It’ll be your chance to view these coveted collections up-close.
The Mint proudly shares something vital with both Ford and Holden: the craft of designing and manufacturing right here in Australia. Just like motor workshops, our Tooling Room generates offcuts of metal — and for this display, those once-forgotten scraps have been repurposed and given a second lap of honour.
From building, restoring and modifying machines to minting coins that honour them, Australia’s motoring faithful continue to leave their mark — on our memories, our collections and every road they thunder down.
