The Royal Australian Mint is proud to announce the opening of our newest exhibition: Floral Impressions: Coins in Bloom.
The exhibition explores how flowers quietly communicate national spirit, commemoration and social change through objects.
The World in a Single Garden. The floral iconography of coins connects us across time and space. Originating from differing countries and historical periods, coins seemingly unrelated to one another contain one commonality: all capture an aspect of nature in miniature, distilling the beauty of flowers onto a precious disc.
This beautiful new exhibit is free entry, and features the following:
- Floral coin showcase: including floral-themed coins from the National Coin Collection of the Royal Australian Mint.
- Token showcase: when the supply of official coinage was insufficient, tokens enabled trade to continue freely in Australia and New Zealand.
- Bank note showcase: colourful bouquets of botanical designs, symbolising national identity, biodiversity or cultural heritage.
- Plasters showcase: coin designers traditionally use large-scale plaster models to design and produce coins.
- Accessible interactive wall.
- Exciting new mural and activities in the Family Gallery.
Accessible Interactive Wall
Coins are a tactile experience. We feel their patterned edges; we appreciate the raised pattern that makes up the design. Here you can feel the lines, curves and shapes our artists at the Royal Australian Mint have carefully designed. Those with additional sensory needs can come along during a Quiet Morning to enjoy the exhibition at your own pace (bookings required).
Children’s Space
The Family Gallery will feature an exciting new mural by Australian illustrator Ellen Portues, the designer of the 2026 Tooth Fairy collection. There will be special activities for children to do, and perhaps they’ll even find a portal between worlds…
