Australia’s biggest celebration of spring, Floriade, returns to Canberra from 12 September to 11 October 2026. As part of Floriade About Town, the Royal Australian Mint will host a suite of fun floral-themed activities to celebrate this year’s event.
Coin Swap
Kicking off the Floriade celebrations is a special coin swap event on Saturday, 12 September. Bring cash to swap for selected past edition coins. Our coin swap will take place outside on the Mint grounds, with a sausage sizzle and live entertainment.
Limited Edition Gallery Coin Press
Also from 12 September, a special edition $1 Flower Privy Mark Uncirculated Coin will be available to mint in the Gallery Coin Press. The coin features design elements from all eight of Australia’s circulating coins since 1966, and an ACT bluebell flower privy mark, in honour of Floriade. It will be available to mint for the duration of Floriade, and closes on 11 October.
For your chance to mint the first coin, join us on 12 September at our First Coin of Floriade event. Participants go in the draw to mint the first flower privy mark coin, complete with a certificate and frame.
Floral Exhibition
Explore the rich symbolism of flowers on coins in the Floral Impressions: Coins in Bloom exhibit. This free exhibition is suitable for the whole family. Visit and explore the themes of floral emblems, flowers used as decorative embellishments on coin designs, and commemorative symbolism.
The Mint Café
After enjoying the floral festivities, relax with a selection of Floriade-themed foods and drinks available at the Mint Café from 12 September.
