Fiftieth Anniversary - Accession of Queen Elizabeth II

The Royal Australian Mint will release at the end of February two precious metal Collector Proof Coins to commemorate the Accession of Her Majesty to the Throne in 1952. The first coin is a 1oz (31.1036 grams) pure (99.99%) Gold coin with a face value of $100. The twelve-sided (dodecagonal) pure silver coin has a weight of 18.24 grams and a face value of 50 cents.

2002 $1 Silver Kangaroo coin features design by Western Australian Aboriginal painter

A specially commissioned design by WA painter, Mark Nodea, is featured on the 2002 Silver Kangaroo coin just released by the Royal Australian Mint, our national Mint.

The collector coin is the tenth in the series of Silver Kangaroo $1 coins released since 1993 and is the second one to depict a Kangaroo in an Aboriginal format.

The International Year of the Volunteer $1 circulating coin

Body: 

To celebrate the International Year of the Volunteer, the Federal Government has authorised the release of a $1 circulating coin featuring the Logo of the International Year. The Mint will produce some 6 million coins that will go into circulation around the country over the next few months. The coin will only be produced as a circulating coin and not in a proof or uncirculated format.
