Can You Spy These Coins?

What can you spot on a coin?

A shiny platypus splashing through the water? A sleek dolphin leaping through the waves? Maybe a shark, a snake or even a secret code hiding in plain sight?

These school holidays, young explorers are invited to flip, spin and discover the fascinating world of coins through interactive activities, crafts and adventures at the Mint.

Big Fun for Little Collectors

Children aged 4–6 can jump into the Mini-Minties program, where storytelling, creativity and discovery come together.

Armed with magnifying glasses, little detectives can investigate the tiny details hidden on coins, discover amazing Australian animals and design their very own special coin to celebrate the Mint’s 60th birthday.

From sharks and dingoes to dolphins and snakes, there’s a whole wild world waiting to be uncovered. Young visitors can also explore coins with unusual shapes, colours and moving features through playful crafts and hands-on activities.

Calling All Future Coin Designers

For older children aged 7–12, Mintventures sessions offer a deeper dive into the stories behind Australia’s coins.

Participants can discover how nature has inspired coin designs throughout history, learn about Stuart Devlin’s iconic decimal coin creations and even imagine what their own currency might look like.

Would your coin feature a favourite animal? A local landmark? A secret message? The possibilities are endless.

Spy Missions and Secret Codes

Got a budding detective at home?

Future spies can test their skills by cracking codes and uncovering hidden mysteries found on coins. Along the way, they'll learn how designers use symbols, patterns and clever details to tell stories and communicate ideas.

It's part treasure hunt, part history lesson and all fun.

Heroes Great and Small

Animal lovers won't want to miss the chance to discover some of Australia's most unlikely heroes commemorated on coins.

From courageous creatures to loyal wartime companions, these remarkable stories show that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

Free Afternoon Craft Fun

If you're looking for a relaxed activity, Crafternoon runs every afternoon from 2pm to 4pm throughout the school holidays.

Families can simply drop in, get creative with a free coin-themed craft activity and enjoy some quality time together. No bookings are required, making it a perfect option for spontaneous holiday adventures.

Explore at Your Own Pace

Visitors can also collect children's activity guides from the Welcome Desk and set off on a self-guided journey through the museum and factory viewing areas.
