Three hundred and fifty international guests from the minting world will visit the Royal Australian Mint today in Canberra to see the newly upgraded facilities first hand.
The Royal Australian Mint is hosting the biannual Mint Directors Conference in Canberra this week. With over forty-five countries being represented, heads of world mints and representatives from the minting industry have gathered in Canberra to discuss and exchange information on the issues that they share in this industry.
“It is an honour to welcome the MDC 2010 delegates to Australia, Canberra and the Royal Australian Mint,” said Royal Australian Mint Chief Executive Officer Mr Ross MacDiarmid.
“It is not only a great opportunity for us to showcase the newly refurbished Mint and its upgraded production processes but also to gain feedback and advice from our peers on steps forward.”
“Hosting this conference also allows us to reaffirm the Mint’s position as a world class producer of coins for general circulation and for commemorative occasion.”
The international delegates will be welcomed at the Mint by the Band of Royal Military College Duntroon playing well-known Australian theme songs and a red carpet to the entrance of the building.
The Royal Australian Mint Coin Shop will open at the later time of 10 am with the first floor observation gallery opening at 12 noon to visitors.
Assistant Treasurer the Hon Bill Shorten MP greeted the delegates at a gala dinner at the Parliament House of Australia last night.
