Royal Australian Mint takes home a Trifecta at the Canberra Region Tourism Awards

The Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) proudly received three awards at the Canberra Region Tourism Awards on Friday night recognising the exemplary education and visitor experience at one of Canberra’s most iconic tourist attractions.

The Mint accepted the top spot for the Visitor Experience Award, the Tourism Visitor Education Award and the Cultural Tourism Award, highlighting a successful year with record visitor numbers and the 50th anniversary of decimal currency celebrations.

Mint CEO Mr Ross MacDiarmid said that these awards reflect the dedication of the Education and Visitor Services Team and their commitment to the ACT tourism sector during a momentous year.

“Due to the hard work of our Education and Visitor Services Team the Mint has contributed significantly to tourism in the Canberra region, receiving the greatest number of visitors in Mint history with almost 300 000 people walking through the doors,” said Mr MacDiarmid

“Each year the Mint strives to bring the best experience to a diverse range of visitors, receiving regular commendation from tours groups and individuals; it is an honour to receive this recognition from our local industry.”

With over 52 000 school students enjoying a specialised tour from our guides and almost 300 000 people visiting the Mint over the past 12 months, overall visitor numbers have risen by 8.9 per cent on the previous year.

Commended for achievements in Canberra and around Australia, the Canberra Region Tourism Awards recognised the Mint’s 50th anniversary of decimal currency celebrations with The Changeover Tour taking the minting experience to each state and territory.

The Mint is open every day of the year, except Good Friday and Christmas Day, bringing visitors the opportunity to see where every single Australian circulating coin is made.

Offering free parking, free admission and free scheduled public tours, the Mint is a must-see attraction on any Canberra itinerary.
