ACT 20c student designer profile

Body:

Stacy Jo-Ann Paine, a student at Caroline Chisholm High School in Canberra's South, was in grade 7 in 2000 when she submitted her design. The oldest of three children, 13 year old Stacy and her two brothers were all born and have grown up in Canberra.

Stacy found out about the Royal Australian Mint's coin design competition through her dad, who read about it in the newspaper. Both Stacy and her dad thought it would be a great idea to enter since Stacy's ambition is to work in a creative field such as freehand drawing, interior design or floristry.

In deciding what would feature in her design, Stacy considered as many ACT and Canberra icons and Federation symbols as possible. After some research Stacy chose the symbols which she considered best, and those that would compliment the circular design of the coin. Stacy drew some sketches, and decided to enter the one which was most aesthetically pleasing, and which showed to Australia the places and icons in the ACT which came about as a result of Federation.
