2003 babies welcomed with a special coin set

Body:

Babies coming into the world in 2003 have a special coin set awaiting them to commemorate the year of their arrival.

The Mint's popular Baby Set has been issued this year containing all denominations of coins dated 2003.

Now in their 11th year, the popular sets continue to be highly sought after by collectors as well as friends and family of parents welcoming a new baby into the fold.

The 2003 set will be the sixth to feature the Koala family theme, illustrated in the inimitable style of early Australian childhood classics.

"This is a wonderful gift for grandparents or friends to give to commemorate the birth of a baby", said the Controller of the Mint, Dr Vivienne Thom.

The set features a place for baby's photograph and details of the family tree as well as a delightful medallion with space set aside to engrave a lasting message.

Dr Thom said the timeless charm and impeccable production quality of the Baby Sets ensured they would be a treasured memento of a special occasion and an heirloom in the making. "They truly are a gift for life."

The Baby Sets are available in two versions.

The Proof set contains a complete set of individually struck 2003 Proof coins which are minted to the highest quality with a polished mirror finish. The Proof coins come lavishly housed in a white presentation case with a pure silver medallion. The Proof baby set costs $89.50.

The Uncirculated set includes a complete set of newly struck trade coins, straight from the presses and packaged to preserve them in pristine condition, with a copper medallion. The Uncirculated set costs $29.33.
