To commemorate the 150-year anniversary of the Eureka Stockade the Royal Australian Mint is releasing a $1 Silver Proof Coin. A limited edition of 20,000 coins will be available giving Australians an opportunity to mark this historical occasion. The coin is stuck in fine silver and has a distinctive contemporary design.
The commemorative coin will be launched on Friday 27 February at 10.30am at the Eureka Centre, Ballarat by the Controller of the Royal Australian Mint, Dr Vivienne Thom.
The Eureka Centre is situated on the site where the violent uprising took place. The Eureka Stockade is considered one of the most significant events in the evolution of Australian democracy.
The Royal Australian Mint will be on site for a three-day period from Friday 27th February until Sunday 29th February. Visitors will have the opportunity to strike their own letter "E" for Eureka on a $1 aluminium bronze coin.
