Free talk at the Mint ‘Minting Classic Coins and Australia’s First Coins’ by Dr Rick Williams

Join Dr Rick Williams for a free public talk about the impressions stamped on coins from Southern Italy in the 6th and 5th centuries BC and how their minting relates to Australia’s first coins - the holey dollar and dumps made in New South Wales in 1813. How do they compare? Can we draw links between the methods used to make them?

When: Wednesday 8 August 2018 at 10.30am-11.15am
Where: Education Room at the Royal Australian Mint, Denison Street, Deakin, ACT
Price: Free of charge but bookings recommended

Queensland and New South Wales will be Minting their way to mischief with a counter-stamp Rascals & Ratbags coin in July

Marking 150 years since the convict era of Rascals and Ratbags, the Royal Australian Mint is landing in a town near you. To celebrate their special contribution to Australia’s history, heritage and folklore, you’re invited to get up to a bit of mischief yourself, by counterstamping your very own commemorative Rascals & Ratbags $1 coin. Our mobile minting team will be touring around the country, stocked with a range of special products, coin swaps and just as many great stories to share.
