This coin offers a fresh take on the iconic Australian Coat of Arms, reimagining Stuart Devlin’s timeless design with a modern, celebratory twist. At the heart of the design are a playful kangaroo and emu adorned with flowing coloured ribbons, symbolising festivity and movement. The bright yellow dots, inspired by the wattle — our national floral emblem since 1912 — add a touch of golden warmth, echoing the coat of arms’ heritage in a contemporary way. Delicate weave elements mirror the original ribbon motifs, blending tradition with creativity to capture the essence of celebration.
This coin, designed by the Mint’s Aleksandra Stokic, celebrates special occasions with a vibrant interpretation of Australia’s beloved symbols. “I reimagined the iconic 50c coin as a tribute to modern Australia, drawing inspiration from the glow of gum leaves, the energy of summer markets, and the unity within our communities,” said Aleksandra.
"Its colourful design celebrates our multiculturalism, bold lines reflect strength, and playful details highlight our connection to nature and adventure." The playful kangaroo and emu, adorned with celebratory ribbons and golden wattle accents, blend tradition with modern festivity. The presentation, which includes space for a personalised message, makes it an ideal keepsake for any milestone worth cherishing. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Daniel Thorne.
