Last & First Coin of the Year

Join us at the Mint to mark the end of 2024 and beginning of 2025 with the chance to mint the last and first coins of the year. Here’s everything you need to know:

Last Coin of the Year – 31 December 2024

This will be your chance to strike one of the last coins made in 2024.
On 31 December 2024, the Mint will hold a raffle for the chance to mint one of the last 10 coins of the year. Visitors of the Mint will receive 1 wristband per person to enter the raffle. Secure your wristband and go in the draw to win.
The winners will be the last ten visitors to mint the last 10 coins in Australia for 2024. Each lucky winner will receive a certificate authenticating their coin for 2024.

Raffle numbered wristbands: Available on-site from 3:30pm to 4:30pm only
Raffle draw: 4:30pm
Minting fee: $3 per coin (bring cash)


First Coin of the Year – 1 January 2025

This will be your chance to strike one of the first coins made in 2025.
On 1 January 2025, the Mint will hold a raffle for the chance to be to the first person to mint a coin anywhere in the world for 2025.  Visitors of the Mint will receive 1 wristband per person to enter the raffle. Secure your wristband and go in the draw to win.
The winners will be the first 100 visitors to strike a coin in Australia for 2025. Each lucky winner will receive a certificate authenticating their coin for 2025.
As part of this historical occasion, the first coin will be set in a piece of marble taken from the iconic Mint building’s heritage listed floor during recent renovations.

Raffle numbered wristbands: Available on-site from 7:00am to 8:00am only
Raffle draw: 8:00am
Minting fee: $3 per coin (bring cash)
Limit: 1 coin per person
Standard Coin Press limits apply during regular opening hours.

Mint Café: Open for coffee orders outside from 6:30am to 10:00am. Normal trading hours resume at 10:00am.

Toilets are accessible at the Mint Oval from 6:00am - 10:00am.
