2018 New Year’s Eve event – Last Coin of the Year

This will be your chance to secure the last coins produced by the Royal Australian Mint in 2018. On Monday December 31 at 4:30 pm, a lucky door draw will be held at the Mint for the last coins of the year. We will draw the last ten customers to strike a coin and each lucky winner will receive a certificate authenticating their coin.

Ticketing commences at 3.30 pm.

2019 New Year’s Day event – first 100 by 9.30 am!

Join us on Tuesday 1 January 2019, to be the first in the world to stamp coins for the New Year.

The first 100 people at the Mint by 9.15 am will receive a ticket to go into the draw to be the first person to strike a coin in 2019! Tickets will be drawn to declare all 100 places, with those drawn receiving corresponding certificates authenticating their piece.

Similar to 2018’s event, the public will no longer be required to line up at the Mint overnight. In fact, due to concerns about health and safety issues people are not permitted to line up at the Mint before 6 am on New Year’s Day (1 January 2019).

Terms and Conditions

Last coins of the year 2018: New Year’s Eve, Monday 31 December 2018

  1. The Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) will draw out ten (10) lucky winners to make the last coins of the year for 2018.
  2. The first person drawn out will be invited to make the tenth last coin, the second person out will be invited to make the ninth last coin and so on. The tenth person will be invited to make the last coin of the year for 2018.
  3. The coin will cost each person $3 to make and change can be arranged at the Mint’s Coin Shop.
  4. All entrants must be onsite at the Mint in Deakin in time to receive a free ticket to go into the draw.
  5. The winning ticketholders must be present during the draw otherwise there will be a redraw.
  6. Tickets are free of charge.
  7. Tickets will be handed out between 3.30 pm and 4.25 pm on Monday 31 December 2018, with the draws taking place at 4.30pm.
  8. The visitor coin press will be closed to the general public from 4.30 pm and reopen at 11.30 am on Monday 1 January 2019.  
  9. The last 10 coins will be made between 4.30 pm and 5.00 pm on Monday 31 December 2018.

First coins of the year 2019: – New Year’s Day, Monday 1 January 2019

  1. Due to concerns about health and safety issues, people will not be permitted to camp on the Mint entrance ramp.
  2. Visitors and collectors may line-up from 6.00 am on Tuesday 1 January 2019.
  3. The car park to the Mint will be closed on Monday 31 December from 6.00 pm and reopen at 6.00 am on Tuesday 1 January 2019.
  4. The first 100 visitors who have lined up prior to 9.15 am on Tuesday1 January 2019 will go into the draw to win their place in securing one of the first 100 coins.
  5. The draw will take place at the Mint at 9.15 am on Tuesday 1 January 2019.
  6. The winners must be at the Mint to be a part of the draw and remain onsite until their coin is made.
  7. The first person drawn out will be invited to make the first coin of 2019. The second person out will be invited to make the second coin and so on until all have been drawn.  
  8. The coin will cost each person $3 to make and change can be arranged at the Mint’s Coin Shop.
  9. The Mint will open at 10.00 am on Tuesday 1 January 2019.
  10. Following a welcome address to the Mint from the CEO or Mint representative, certificate holder number one will be invited to make the first coin of the year.
  11. Certificate holders 2-100 will then be drawn and invited to come up in order to press their coin.
  12. Please be aware media may be in attendance and request interviews and/or photos. 
  13. The Mint will be taking photos and video for promotional purposes. Please inform staff if you do not wish to be involved.
