A Tribute to Tennis: Unveiling the Australian Open 2025 Commemorative Coins
To celebrate 120 years of the Australian Open, the Royal Australian Mint has teamed up with Australia Post to serve up these new collectible coins. Both a men's and women's coin are offered with Privy Mark in folder, each with a one in ten chance of containing a special coloured coin!
In 2012, the Royal Australian Mint made history by minting the official coin toss coins for the Australian Open finals. The Australian Open is where history is written with every serve, volley, and match point — a global stage where champions rise and Australia’s summer shines brightest.
This year, the Mint proudly commemorates the Australian Open once again with vibrant commemorative coins that capture the tournament’s energy and spirit. Designed by the Mint's Aaron Baggio, these coins feature a bold blue tennis ball, reflecting the signature colours of the iconic tennis court, with a sculpted tennis player frozen mid-motion in the power of the shot. Additionally, 1 in 10 of these coins will feature a special coloured design, perfectly matching a tennis ball. "Either way you choose to interpret the design, together the designs appear as if the players are playing a game of tennis" says Aaron. The design encapsulates the dynamic essence of the Australian Open, paying tribute to this renowned event in stunning detail. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Daniel Thorne.
