Approaching the 50th anniversary of decimal currency, the Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) is heading out of Canberra this month with the mobile press in tow to bring the minting experience to the people and share the decimal currency story.
The first leg of The Changeover Tour will reach out to a number of regional centres in New South Wales, starting in Wollongong and then visiting Newcastle, Tamworth and Dubbo.
Visit our pop-up stalls to shop for the latest products, swap for fresh change and stamp the special coin. All times and locations are listed below.
Following huge interest with Australia’s latest commemorative circulating coins, we will be bringing these coins to the people. Two commemorative circulating coins will be available to swap at face value, including the highly-sought after 2015 $2 Circulating Lest We Forget Coloured Coin, the familiar 2015 $1 Circulating 100 Years of Anzac Coin and the brand new 2015 $2 Circulating Remembrance Day Coloured Coin. To learn more about the new coin, or of its launch, please see media release.
To make the event even more memorable collectors will be able to personally counterstamp the special mark for The Changeover Tour - the outline of Australia - onto the 2015 $1 Circulating 100 Years of Anzac Coin for $10 each.
We’ll also have all of our latest products for sale giving the chance to purchase without a postage fee!
Not located in these areas? Don’t worry; we plan to visit all States and Territories in the coming months to give as many Australians as possible the chance to visit the Mint and find out more about Australian coinage without coming to Canberra.
Why is it called 'The Changeover Tour'?
The term ‘the changeover’ was used fifty years ago to communicate the move from pre-decimal currency to what we have today.
Plus we are giving you the chance at the pop-up shops to changeover the coins in your pocket for the new commemorative circulating coins!
