With Australia’s biggest horsepower party less than a month away, the Mint is gearing-up to join the action at the annual Street Machine Car Festival SUMMERNATS 32.

The Mint will be making available a limited number of the highly sought-after Ford and Holden Motorsport coins and Collection Tins. The coins celebrate the history of Australian Motorsports, the cars and the drivers who blazed a trail into Motorsports' history.

The Motorsport coins and Collection Tins (empty) are $15 each.  In addition to this, the stand will be stocking the following coin sachets.

Last and First Coin of the Year

2018 New Year’s Eve event – Last Coin of the Year

This will be your chance to secure the last coins produced by the Royal Australian Mint in 2018. On Monday December 31 at 4:30 pm, a lucky door draw will be held at the Mint for the last coins of the year. We will draw the last ten customers to strike a coin and each lucky winner will receive a certificate authenticating their coin.

Ticketing commences at 3.30 pm.

Ticketing closes: 4.25 pm

Power Outage - Friday 26 October

Due to a scheduled power outage, the Mint’s e-shop and Contact Centre will be offline from 1:30 pm on Friday 26 October.
We anticipate the e-shop will be back online on Saturday 27 October. The Contact Centre will re-open on Monday 29 October at 8.30 am.
The Mint’s Gallery and retail shop will not be affected by the power outage and will remain open to visitors until 5:00 pm.

The Roadshow marks 150 years since the convict era of Rascals and Ratbags and celebrates their special contribution to Australia’s history, heritage and folklore. Royal Australian Mint strikes new AC/DC coins with lightning

The Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) is celebrating the 45th anniversary of Australian rock royalty, today releasing high voltage AC/DC coins.

In the spirit of AC/DC and their hit single ‘Thunderstruck’, the Mint partnered with Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre to strike AC/DC coins with a bolt of man-made lightning. 

Floriade fun with Snugglepot and Cuddlepie

Step into the magical world of May Gibbs’ Snugglepot and Cuddlepie with the Mint at Floriade.

From 1 to 5 October the Mint will be celebrating the 100th birthday of the much-loved and mischievous bush babies with free activities for the whole family.

Listen to May Gibbs’ classic Australian book ‘Meet Snugglepot and Cuddlepie’ during Story Time, create your own gumnut necklace or crown at daily craft sessions and get creative at the May Gibbs Colouring Corner.

The Royal Australian Mint in Canberra is holding a celebration of Australian motorsport and is inviting locals to join us on national breakfast TV on Tuesday 21 August. Kids, cars, supporter flags and clothing welcome!  

The TV event will launch the Mint’s Motorsport Collection, featuring 12 new fifty cent coins showcasing iconic Ford or Holden vehicles.

A Ford or Holden Motorsport coin is also on offer for those that bring along a car matching one of the models below.

Free talk at the Mint ‘Minting Classic Coins and Australia’s First Coins’ by Dr Rick Williams

Join Dr Rick Williams for a free public talk about the impressions stamped on coins from Southern Italy in the 6th and 5th centuries BC and how their minting relates to Australia’s first coins - the holey dollar and dumps made in New South Wales in 1813. How do they compare? Can we draw links between the methods used to make them?

Change to Circulating Coin Sachet Availability

Due to a change in policy, the Royal Australian Mint can no longer offer Circulating Coin Sachets for purchase through our online store or contact centre, effective from July 1, 2018. This change of policy has been made to ensure the Mint’s continued compliance with Australia’s Taxation regulations.

From July 1, sachets of circulating coins will only be available as a Coin Swap (cash only) at our Roadshow, Pop-Up and Coin Swap Events.  We apologise for any inconvenience and encourage our collectors to take advantage of this limited window of availability.

Rascals & Ratbags Roadshow Reveal at the Royal Australian Mint.

Come and celebrate with the Mint this Saturday as we kick off our national tour with the Rascals and Ratbags Roadshow Reveal.

Stamp your own coin with a special ‘Australia’ counterstamp, swap existing coins or cash for freshly minted 2018 standard and commemorative circulating coins and shop for the latest products.

Everyone is welcome to join in the fun, stamp their own coin and explore the Mint.

Vale Stuart Devlin AO (1931 - 2018)

The Royal Australian Mint honours and pays tribute to Stuart Devlin AO, who passed away peacefully on 12 April 2018 at the age of 86. Devlin is the designer of Australia’s circulating coins and regarded as one of the most creative and influential goldsmith and silversmiths of his time.

As the supplier of Australia’s circulating coinage, the Royal Australian Mint has a longstanding connection to Devlin, who designed Australia’s decimal currency released in 1966.

Rascals and Ratbags Roadshow travels to Melbourne and Tasmania in May

The Royal Australian Mint is hitting the road and bringing the minting experience to towns and cities around Australia on the 2018 Rascals & Ratbags Roadshow.

The first stage of the tour will visit Melbourne, Port Arthur, Hobart, Launceston and Devonport throughout May.

The Mobile Mint Team will be setting up pop-up shops where you can strike an ‘Australia’ counterstamp onto a Rascals & Ratbags $1 coin, swap coins or cash for freshly minted and special circulating coins, plus browse new products from the Mint.

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games 7 Coin Collection

To celebrate the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games the Royal Australian Mint through Woolworths has released three themed coloured $2 coins featuring designs inspired by the Games and the dynamic Gold Coast Landscape. The coins will available from Woolworths supermarkets and metro stores nationwide from 14 March for a 4 week period or while stocks last.

Special Event - Curator Talk

Silver and Gold: unique Australian objects 1850-1910

Join the National Gallery of Australia’s Beatrice Thompson as she shares specialist insights about the rare 19th and 20th century silver and gold objects currently on display at the Royal Australian Mint. Grand and elegant, the objects celebrate excellence in design and silver smithing in colonial Australia. Ticket cost includes curator talk, exhibition viewing and light refreshments.

With the Sydney Royal Easter Show offering a great range of activities for the family, the Royal Australian Mint will be joining in the fun from 23 March to 3 April 2018. Popping-up at the GC2018 Superstore

The Royal Australian Mint is popping-up on the gold coast in the countdown to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Mint pop-up shop and mobile coin press will be at the GC2018 Superstore in Broadbeach, Queensland from 24 to 26 January 2018.

The pop-up shop will have on display the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games gold, silver and bronze medals, along with official commemorative coins collection.

This will be a rare opportunity for the public to pick up a special keepsake of the Games and see the Games medals up-close and personal.
