Last coin of 2014 and First coin of 2015

The Royal Australian Mint will continue its annual tradition of allowing a member of the public the opportunity to strike the last coin of the year on Wednesday 31 December 2014.

Each year there is a great amount of interest in striking the last coin on the Mint's public gallery press. The Mint will be giving visitors to the Mint the chance to be the lucky one to make and keep the final coin to come from the Mint for the year.

Royal Australian Mint Christmas trading hours

There will be some minor changes to the trading hours of the Royal Australian Mint for the 2014/15 holiday season

The Contact Centre will be closed from Wednesday 24 December 2014, reopening on Monday 5 January 2015.

The Mint's Gallery and Coin Shop will be closed on Thursday 25 December 2014.

 

You will still be able to purchase products on the eShop during this time however, orders will not be sent out until Monday 5 January 2015.

 

Calling former Minties to celebrate 50 years of history

In February 2015, the Royal Australian Mint will mark 50 proud years since being officially opened by His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

To celebrate this important milestone, the Mint will host a special dinner for current and former Mint staff who have been a part of the Mint’s journey during these five decades.

The Anniversary Dinner will be held on Saturday, 21 February 2015 (time to be confirmed) in Canberra. Official event details will be provided at a later date.

Mint begins visitor gallery refurbishment

A major redevelopment of the Mint’s factory viewing gallery is underway, which will greatly improve the experience for our visitors.

Some changes to our gallery and potential interruptions during this work are unavoidable. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Redesign and construction work is expected to run between 17 November and 26 December 2014. The factory viewing area will be closed for a 11 day period, from 17-26 December 2014.
The new look gallery will be officially unveiled in time for the Mint’s 50th Birthday in February 2015.

Remembrance Day at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance

To mark Remembrance Day 2014, we will be taking the mobile coin press to Melbourne on 11 November 2014 on the grounds of the Shrine of Remembrance and counterstamping an ‘M’ for Melbourne onto the 2014 $1 100 Years of Anzac Circulating Coin.

The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne is the National War Memorial of Victoria, a monument dedicated to all those who have served in the armed conflicts and peacekeeping operations in which Australia has participated.

Join the Mint's early 50th Anniversary celebrations at the Sydney ANDA show

We’re inviting you to join our early 50th birthday celebrations at the Sydney ANDA Show on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 October 2014. Our soon-to-be released celebratory Six Coin Year Sets mark our golden anniversary and we're offering temptingly lower prices and a special promotion!

We’re celebrating our ‘1 to 50’ years with our ‘$1, $2, 50c’ 2014 commemorative circulating coins.

Successful entries in the Victoria Cross Coin Ballot

Ballot winners will be informed from today about their opportunity to purchase one $10 A History of the Victoria Cross Copper Antique Coin. If you were successful and nominated an email address, you will receive an email in your inbox informing you of the next steps. If you did not nominate an email address and were successful, you will be sent a letter in the mail. It may take a few more days for you to find out if you were successful.

Ballot closed for 2014 $10 A History of the Victoria Cross antique copper coin

The ballot for the 2014 $10 A History of the Victoria Cross Antique Copper coin closed at 5pm on Friday 30 May 2014.

The Royal Australian Mint is currently validating entries to ensure the terms and conditions of the ballot have been adhered to prior to drawing the ballot.

Those who are successful in the ballot will be contacted by email later this week and invited to purchase the coin. Those who did not provide an email address will be contacted by mail.

 

Mint attends Rotary International Conference

The Royal Australian Mint has been invited to participate in Rotary's 2014 International Convention in Sydney.

The Mint will have a booth at the convention from the 31st May until 4th June 2014, including our mobile press. We'll be giving those attending the conference the chance to pick up an 'S' for Sydney 2014 $1 A Voyage to Terra Australis uncirculated coin.

Mint visits Brisbane ANDA Show

The Royal Australian Mint will be packing up the mobile press and hitting the road once again, this time we’re visiting Brisbane for the ANDA Show.

The Mint will have a booth at the show on the 24th and 25th May 2014, with our latest releases as well as an opportunity to pick up a 'B' for Brisbane 2014 $1 A Voyage to Terra Australis uncirculated coin.

Additional guided tours for the school holidays

The Royal Australian Mint will be running additional free guided tours during the school holiday period.

Wednesday 23rd April - 10:00am, 11:00am and 2:00pm

Discover the Mint's show booth at the Royal Easter Show

Anzac Centenary Coin Program unveiled

Today, the Royal Australian Mint unveiled the Anzac Centenary Coin Program, which identifies the significant events, dates and themes planned for commemoration.

The program will be officially launched this evening, along with the triangular 2014 $5 Silver Proof Triangular Lest We Forget coin, by Senator the Honourable Michael Ronaldson, Minister for Veteran’s Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Centenary of ANZAC, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AC AFC (Ret’d), and Australian War Memorial Director Dr Brendan Nelson.

Royal Australian Mint goes west for Perth ANDA show

The Royal Australian Mint will be attending the Perth ANDA Coin and Banknote Show on 1 - 2 March 2014.

The show will be held at Belmont Park Racecourse, (Ground Floor) Victoria Park Drive, Burswood, Western Australia.

Mint issues new Mint Issue App for the 100th edition

The Royal Australian Mint is releasing the 100th edition of Mint Issue and to celebrate this major milestone has created the Mint Issue App for the iPad. The app takes Mint Issue to a new level, introducing interactive coin displays, videos and far more detail than could be included in the hardcopy editions.

The Mint has been working furiously to create the Mint Issue app to coincide with the 100th edition and the result is something really special.

Canberra's best underground bar reopens for Enlighten 2014

The Royal Australian Mint will be unlocking the high-security basement for Enlighten 2014 to host Busking in the Basement.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the $1 coin, the Mint has invited the indomitable Paul McDermott down into the capital's favourite underground venue
- the High-Vis Bar in the Mint Basement for one special show. Slip on a high-vis vest and vibe with buskers old and new, as they explore the edge in Canberra's
funkiest industrial basement venue.

Mint takes home Comcare 2014 health and safety awards

The Royal Australian Mint has been recognised for its work towards health and safety at the annual Comcare Awards in Melbourne.

The Mint was declared the winner of the Workplace Health and Safety Management System category for the Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS) which was implemented over the past three years.

Commemorative coin to mark 70th anniversary of 'G for George' retirement

In recognition of the 70th anniversary of the retirement of the Avro Lancaster W4783 'G for George', currently on display at the Australian War Memorial, the Royal Australian Mint has produced a commemorative collectible coin to mark the occasion.

The release also coincides with the annual Bomber Command wreathlaying ceremony held on the Memorial grounds this Sunday 1 June 2014.

Unique two-up coin toss at Anzac Day UC Brumbies match

The Royal Australian Mint has partnered with the University of Canberra Brumbies to incorporate a fitting tribute to Diggers at the Anzac Day commemorative rugby match tomorrow. In lieu of the coin toss, a quick game of two-up will be played using a bespoke kip (paddle) to fit two of the Royal Australian Mint’s impressive Anzac Centenary commemorative coins.
