Mint Field Day this Saturday

Join the Royal Australian Mint in celebrating the release of its recent products from 10 am - 2 pm on Saturday 5 November at the first ever Mint Field Day! To mark 50 years of Triple Zero, the Mint has not only produced a commemorative collectible coin but you can also come along and explore the emergency service vehicles that respond to those calls - including the Snowy Hydro Southcare helicopter and a 44 metre ‘Bronto’ airlift, as well as a sausage sizzle from 10 am to 2 pm. If you’re one of the first 300 visitors you will also receive a free showbag packed with goodies!

Hyper-metallic and selectively gold plated 50 cent coins

To keep coin collecting interesting and exciting, the Mint have worked hard to create innovative and unique products.

The 2012 Six Coin Uncirculated Set will include the hyper-metallic printed 50 cent coins and retail at $32.50. The 2012 Six Coin Proof Set will feature a selectively gold plated 50 cent coin and retail at $130.00. These coins are not available to buy separately.

These products will go on sale on Wednesday 2 November.

Tour times for this week are:

Monday 10th - 9.30 am

The Coin Shop is a great place for buying your souvenirs, gifts and collector coins and will be open from 9am till 4.30pm, Monday to Friday until the end of Floriade - 14 October 2011. Weekends will be open as per normal.

Air Series Sacred Kingfisher $1 pad printed uncirculated coin design

In response to several enquiries about this product, the Royal Australian Mint has further consulted with a number of experts in the ornithological field and can confirm that the design featured on the above coin does depict the Sacred Kingfisher Todiramphus sanctus.

The bird image used on the packaging is the Common Kingfisher Alcedo atthis.

Extended shopping hours and free guided tours for Floriade - including this weekend!

If you're looking for other things to do whilst in town for Floriade, why not spend an hour or two at the Mint? There's coffee, free parking, free entry and even free guided tours!

Correction on Collection

We wish to advise of a printing error on the Collection by Selection order form. The correct price of the 2012 $5 Silver Proof Curved Coin - Southern Skies (product code 310168) is $110.00 and the mintage is 10 000.

You're invited to the... 2012 Product Launch

The Royal Australian Mint is launching its complete 2012 product calendar at on Tuesday 6 September at Federation Square in Melbourne.

The Mint is also holding an interesting 3-day exhibition 'Unexpected Treasures from the Royal Australian Mint' at Federation Square showcasing some of the rare mis-strikes in the National Coin Collection.

A professional coin dealer from Southern Cross Coins will be onsite from 10 am - 2pm each day of the exhibition to value your interesting collection. Come on down!

CIT Coin Designs - Vote for your favourite!

The Royal Australian Mint is currently holding an exciting student coin design exhibition in the main gallery and you are invited to come and vote to help us find the best design. Graphic Design students from the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) had to present two coin designs as a part of thier 2012 Commemorative Coin Design Class Project, a joint CIT and Royal Australian Mint initiative.

The exhibition runs from Friday 24 June until Friday 22 July 2011. Visitors to the Mint are able to view each student's coin design and vote on which one they like the best.

1. By participating in the Royal Australian Mint Royal Wedding 2011 20c Circulating Coin Swap Promotion (Coin Swap), entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. Information on how to enter the Coin Swap promotion forms part of these conditions.

2. The Coin Swap promotion commences on Friday 29 April 2011 from 10.00am -10.00pm or until 15,000 have been swapped.

3. The Coin Swap promotion is only available to persons present at the promotion site, Custom House Circular Quay on 29 April 2011.

Earth Hour at the Mint

The Royal Australian Mint is proud to observe Earth Hour again this year, and will be turning off our lights at 8:30pm on Saturday 26 March 2011.

Earth Hour is a global sustainability movement organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and is a global call to action to stand up, to take responsibility, and lead the global journey to a sustainable future.

Mint really knows how to make coins - Education program wins top honours

The Mint submitted entries into two categories, which resulted in a win for its Education Program and a commendation for the 'Visit the Mint - it makes Cents' Tourism Marketing Campaign.

New coin to commemorate centenary of International Women’s Day

The Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten and the Minister for the Status of Women Kate Ellis today announced that a commemorative 20 cent coin, celebrating the centenary of International Women’s Day, will be released into public circulation.

The coin will be issued by the Royal Australian Mint, which is responsible for producing all of Australia's circulating coins.

Mint enters international waters

An important milestone was met today for both the Royal Australian Mint and the Government of Samoa at an official coining ceremony at the Mint this morning.

The Assistant Treasurer and the High Commissioner of Samoa, representing the Government of Samoa, were invited onto the factory floor to strike brand new Samoan coins to enter circulation in Samoa later this year.
