Want to be the last person in the world to press a 2009 coin or the first person in the world to press a 2010 coin at the Royal Australian Mint?

 

If you answered yes to either of the questions above, then make sure you get down to the Mint on Thursday 31 December 2009 and Friday 1 January 2010.

Following tradition, the Mint will unveil its new mintmark coin design to the public on 1 January 2010. However, before we change the dies over, we are offering one lucky winner the rare opportunity of being the last person in the world to use the visitor press for 2009! Raffle tickets will be given out to visitors from 3.00pm on Thursday 31 December and the lucky winner will be drawn at 4.00pm to press the final coin.

It is with great sadness that the Royal Australian Mint announces the passing of its current Chief Executive Officer, Ms Janine Murphy.

Some of you may have been aware that Janine had been suffering from a long term illness.

Janine was a wonderful colleague and friend to all of those at the Mint and its loyal customers. She will be dearly missed.

Registration for the Royal Australian Mint Auction opens at 2.30 pm and closes at 3.10 pm. Auction starts at 3.15 pm. Only registered bidders will be accepted.

To protect and maintain the best possible quality of the 2009 $5 Fine Silver Proof Coin - International Year of Astronomy - Meteorite, coins should not be removed from the capsule nor exposed to extreme temperature or light conditions. If the coin is removed from the capsule the Royal Australian Mint is not obliged to replace or repair the coin or its components. Master Mintmark Counterstamp Offer

Mark down the following dates in your calendars: 3 - 6 July 2009, including a special shop launch on the evening of Monday 6 July 2009.

Why?

The Royal Australian Mint will counterstamp the 2009 Master Mintmark $1 Uncirculated Coin. This will be a rare opportunity to buy what will be a very significant and limited edition in our 2009 numismatic program.

The Royal Australian Mint will not have a sales stand at the ANDA Coin fairs

The Royal Australian Mint will not have a sales stand at the ANDA Coin fairs in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne as we have done in past years. There will be no counter stamp coins at these shows. We may provide an unmanned display to showcase our latest releases. However, all product sales enquiries can be directed to your favourite coin shop at the show or by calling our sales team on 1300 652 020. Please keep an eye on our web page as we will use the notice board to update you on our attendance at coins fairs.

 

Come and visit the new Royal Australian Mint Coin Shop!

The Royal Australian Mint Coin Shop is now open in our refurbished building. Come and see our two new and improved visitor presses where you can make your own coin and watch it being struck.

Very soon we will also have a fun photographic opportunity in the Foyer on the Ground Floor for all to enjoy.

In May the First Floor will open. It is the home to our Gallery and Theatrette and includes exhibits from our National Coin Collection, displays illustrating the history of Australian coins and the coining process and new observation windows.

The Royal Australian Mint Coin Shop will open from Tuesday 31 March 2009 in our refurbished building. We will also be unveiling our two new visitor presses where you can make your own coin and watch each step of it being made.

The Royal Australian Mint Coin Shop and Gallery will be temporarily closed from Monday 23 March 2009 - watch this space for opening date in new building!

The Royal Australian Mint Coin Shop and visitors' area will be closed from Monday 23 March 2009 as we are moving into the new building (adjacent to current building) and adding the final touches to our new foyer.

You will be able to visit us on the top floor in the north quarter of the Canberra Centre from 23 - 27 March 2009.

Jesse Martin compares notes with Burke and Wills at coin launch in Melbourne

Leading the pack in commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Burke and Wills expedition, the Royal Australian Mint unveiled new coin designs alongside an exclusive Burke and Wills display at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne.

Modern day explorer Jesse Martin together with Assistant Treasurer Senator Nick Sherry revealed the new coin designs today in Melbourne.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Australian Mint Graham Smith was joined by Terri Irwin and a few of her friends including “Sanchez” the Alligator to officially launch the new coin design at Australia Zoo.

Moon landing and 50 cent coin with something in common

Body: 

Forty years ago today mankind made history with the famous first step on the Moon. In 1969 the Royal Australian Mint made its own history with the issue of the new dodecagonal 50 cent coin.

At a commemorative Apollo 11 anniversary event in Canberra today the Mint officially launches its brand new 50 cent collector coin to celebrate the historic moon landing in 1969.

Vault doors open at the Mint ‘once in a blue moon’

The Royal Australian Mint in Canberra will be opening its vault doors for the first time today to one lucky winner in an event themed Once in a Blue Moon

The winner will have the rare opportunity to enter the Museum vault and transfer some of the Mint’s most treasured coins valued at over $1 million to their new permanent display in the public gallery.

Queenslanders with two reasons to celebrate this weekend!

Coin breaks tradition at PM's XI

Body: 

For a number of years Cricket ACT has been using the same coin in the coin toss at the Prime Minister’s XI cricket match in Canberra. This year will be different.

The coin tossed today is a collectible from the Royal Australian Mint and celebrates what would have been Sir Donald Bradman’s greatest century of all, his 100th birthday.
