The Government will give away a Centenary of Federation Coin Set to every baby born in Australia on 1 January 2001 and for those born on the 31 December 2000, the Minister for Financial Services & Regulation, Joe Hockey, announced today.

Since their release in mid-November, the 2001 Six Coin Sets have been making an appearance at sporting arenas all over Australia, becoming the envy of cricket players, fans and even the Prime Minister.

The second Ansett Australia test match at the WACA will start with the special $1 proof coin from the Royal Australian Mint. The Ansett Australia test match between Australia and the West Indies starts in Perth on 1 December.
A similar coin was used at the Test match in Brisbane and the toss certainly went Australia's way.
The Australian Cricket Board will use the special $1 proof coin from the Royal Australian Mint's new year 2001 Mint Set during the toss of the first Ansett Australia Test Match between Australia and the West Indies in Brisbane on the 23rd November.
The $1 proof coin, dated 2001, to be used has the special Centenary of Federation logo on it in colour.
The Royal Australian Mint, the National Mint, has released a new $1 collector coin commemorating the action, a hundred years ago, that resulted in the awarding of Australia's first Victoria Cross (VC). The VC is the highest military award available to members of the Commonwealth military forces.
