We use marks of authenticity to help you tell the difference between official Royal Australian Mint products.
This lets coins live their authentic lives. Whether that’s as an official and custom minted product, a re-packaged product in the secondary market or a competitor product.
Marks of authenticity
Our marks of authenticity include:
- Australian legal tender bearing the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
- Barcode.
- Black, timber or paper pulp case.
- Round Taper Lock capsule.
- Royal Australian Mint logo with the Commonwealth Coat of Arms crest or text logo.
- Signed Certificate of Authenticity from the CEO of the Royal Australian Mint, including nominal specifications (not all products have these).

Discontinued – Royal Australian Mint holographic sticker
The Mint used to add a holographic sticker as an extra security measure for Royal Australian Mint products.
We stopped using it in 2015 after we reviewed the way we produced and presented our products and found that adding the sticker didn’t address any identifiable security risk.
If you want to check the authenticity of a coin in your collection, we recommend asking a recognised Coin Distributor to assess your coin.
Custom minted products
Custom minted coins are referred to as ‘struck’ rather than minted.
Packaging by the Mint: The coin might be supplied in capsule only. When we provide the coin, case and outer packaging, the outer packaging will only feature the Royal Australian Mint text logo.
Packaging by a third party: Privately commissioned coins packaged by a third party are only authorised to bear the Royal Australian Mint text logo and requires permission.
