Mint Gnomes at Floriade

The Royal Australian Mint will feature in the 2008 Floriade corporate gnome competition with an entry called 'Priscilla, Coin of the Desert'.

In the spirit of the theme Floriade 21 Films that Shaped our Nation, the Mint has entered 3 gnome characters from the Australian box office hit of 1994 Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

First Australian saint commemorated on coin

The Minister for Superannuation and Corporate Law, Senator Nick Sherry will unveil a new coin design which features Blessed Mary MacKillop on Tuesday 8 July 2008 at 11:00am.

The new design is for the first coin in the Inspirational Australians coin series released by the Royal Australian Mint. This is the official launch of the new coin and an opportunity for members of the public to view the first coin design in the series.

The Royal Australian Mint recently published an article in the February edition of The Australasian Coin and Banknote Magazine titled Coming to terms with 'marks'.

The feature article details the updated terminology to be used by the Mint from January 1 2008.

Giant one dollar coin unveiled

In a first for the Royal Australian Mint, a coin 400 times larger than a standard one dollar coin was used to unveil the 2008 circulating coin, commemorating the Centenary of Scouts Australia.

The biggest coin ever produced by the Mint was gradually revealed by ten young people representing the various scouting groups from Joey Scouts to Rovers.

On Friday 22 February 2008, the Royal Australian Mint will unveil the coin design for the new commemorative $1 coin, which celebrates the Centenary of Scouts Australia.

We invite all members of the public to join us on the lawns across from the Mint from 12:30pm - 1:00pm.

The Hon Senator Nick Sherry, Minister for Superannuation and Corporate Law will be joined by the Hon Sir William Deane AC KBE, National President of Scouts Australia and Mr John Ravenhall AM, Chief Commissioner Australia, Scouts Australia in officially launching the new coin design.

Limited Mintage Sales Policy

  • The Royal Australian Mint's limited mintage sales policy applies to any numismatic product sold with a set mintage of or less than 2000.
  • The distribution of numismatic products will be determined on the release date of the numismatic product, based on when orders are received by the Royal Australian Mint.
  • Each of the Royal Australian Mint's sales channels (fax, mail, online, phone, mint shop) will have an allocation commensurate with the percentage of total sales for that channel.
  • Sales will be restricted to one (1) numismatic product per customer.
