Are the ‘Holey Dollar’ and ‘Dump’ coins still legal tender?

The Holey Dollar and Dump are the only Australian coins which have had their ‘legal tender’ status removed, or been ‘demonetised’.

Mint takes its next great step with Cincom

The Royal Australian Mint has commenced the next phase of its modernisation program with the signing of a $3.6 million contract for a new IT Business System.

The contract was won by Cincom Systems of Australia and is scheduled for completion in late 2009. The new system, along with the refurbishment of the Mint’s facilities in Canberra and other modernisation projects, is central to the Mint’s objective of becoming one of the best manufacturing facilities in the world.

“The future of the Mint will be well catered for through Cincom’s innovative solutions for our IT Business Systems. Along with our refurbishment project and new Material Handling and Warehousing System, the Mint is on its way to becoming a truly modern manufacturing facility. The refurbished Mint reopens in early 2009, with a more up to date public gallery and display of the National Coin Collection, which attract thousands of visitors to the Mint each year” said Janine Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Australian Mint.
