Mint receives funding for major IT upgrade
12th September 2007
The Royal Australian Mint (the Mint) has received in-principle funding approval from the Federal Government to improve its information technology (IT) systems, which aligns with the Mint achieving its vision of being a world class minting facility in 2009.
The initial scoping project, 'Phase 1- IT Business Systems Review', was completed in July 2007 and a request for tender (RFT) was released on 10 August 2007 for 'Phase 2- IT Business Systems. The Mint's new IT business system will replace a number of individual IT applications and will cover all aspects of the Mint's operations, including Enterprise Resource Planning, Financial Management, Logistics, Payroll, Human Resources, Production, Quality Assurance, Asset Management, Sales, Customer Relationship Management and Electronic Document Records Management. The new IT Business System is expected to go live by 1 July 2009.
Janine Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Australian Mint said "with constant advancements in technology, the Mint needs to review its current systems to ensure that we keep up to date with the business requirements of a manufacturing organisation operating within the legislative and governance environment of an Australian Government agency. A major IT upgrade will compliment the Mint Building Refurbishment and the Materials Handling Project to ensure that the Mint can become a world leading manufacturing facility from 2009 onwards. Our coins are recognised for their superior quality, and we would like to build on this."
The Mint is currently undergoing a major refurbishment of its process and administration buildings, which are expected to be completed early 2009. The Mint has also obtained funding for its Materials Handling and Warehousing System, which is scheduled to be completed by November 2008.
Tender information for 'Phase 2- Business Systems Upgrade' is available from the AusTender website. Tenders close on the 28th of September 2007. To find out more information please visit www.ramint.gov.au
