Gold series coin to highlight a rare and endangered Australian bird

One of Australia's rare and endangered birds, the South-Eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, is featured on a new gold coin that has been released by the Royal Australian Mint.
The Royal Australian Mint, as Australia's national mint, aims selectively to utilise coin themes that are both relevant and significant to all Australians.
The South-Eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo which is found primarily in Victoria is the third and final bird in the rare and endangered bird coin series and appears on both $150 and $200 denomination gold coins. The previous designs in the series featured the Australian Rainforest Cassowary and the Malleefowl. The inclusion of the endangered Australian bird theme has helped raise the profile of all three rare Australian birds and will assist in educating Australians to help preserve our endangered wildlife.
The coin was designed by the Mint's designer, Wojciech Pietranik.
The Rare Birds Gold Series Coins are now available with just 2,500 of each coin to be minted.
