Are the ‘Holey Dollar’ and ‘Dump’ coins still legal tender?

The Holey Dollar and Dump are the only Australian coins which have had their ‘legal tender’ status removed, or been ‘demonetised’.

The spirit of Christmas captured in the new release from the Royal Australian Mint

Gold from Australia's national mint will sparkle on Christmas trees around Australia with the prestigious Christmas Medallions by the Royal Australian Mint recently released, and just in time for the 2005 Christmas festivities.

Designed by one of Australia's premier artists, Peter Soobik, the special release for this year is the 'Journey to Bethlehem'. It is a classic image created by Peter. He has also prepared the designs for the next five years by they are a closely kept secret only released in November prior to Christmas. Each year the individually released design builds into a complete collection, allowing families to build a Tree of Memories.

The gold plated medallion has been minted by the Royal Australian Mint to exacting standards and is both a collectible item and a functional adornment. The Royal Australian Mint is pleased to announce the fifth release in their Tree of Memories Christmas Medallion series.

The Royal Australian Mint's 2005 Christmas Medallion is now available for purchase now from the Mint by calling 1300 652 020 or visiting www.ramint.gov.au. Please remember, to receive the medallion in time for Christmas orders must be placed by November 23.
