Spirit of Australia commemorated on pure silver $1 coin
9th November 2005
A new release of the famous Silver Kangaroo coin on 9 November 2005 is sure to excite coin collectors and admirers of the Australian bush mammal with the Royal Australian Mint's latest release featuring a bounding kangaroo and her joey.
The 2006 one dollar silver kangaroo is boldly patriotic and brilliantly designed with an extremely modern and sophisticated background that has a stylised version of the Australian outline.
Two versions of this coin are available and include a highly affordable frosted, uncirculated version and for the more discerning, a proof version. Both coins are minted in fine silver.
A whole ounce of 99.9% fine silver does justice to a moving image that continues the tradition of the kangaroo coin series but delights with the inclusion of a joey peeking out of its mothers pouch.
Chief Executive Officer of the Mint Dr Vivienne Thom is thrilled with the Mint's new release. "We have depicted a truly wonderful Australian sight on the 2006 kangaroo coin and it is destined to generate a lot of interest and affection within the Australian and international public. I am sure this coin will find its way into many Christmas packages this year as well as the collections of numismatists world-wide."
The kangaroo series coin is a signature release from the Royal Australian Mint, Australia's national mint. The highly collectible proof version of the 2006 Silver Kangaroo coin is limited to just 12,500 coins
These coins are available for purchase from November 9th directly from the Mint by calling 1300 625 020 or visiting www.ramint.gov.au.
