Are the ‘Holey Dollar’ and ‘Dump’ coins still legal tender?

The Holey Dollar and Dump are the only Australian coins which have had their ‘legal tender’ status removed, or been ‘demonetised’.

Australia's red kangaroo featured in unique coin series

The Royal Australian Mint is proud to announce the release of the 2005 $1 Selectively Gold Plated Silver Kangaroo. This is the third release in the unique and highly successful Kangaroo Series.

Designed by the Royal Australian Mint's designer Wojciech Pietranik the 2005 Selectively Gold Plated Silver Kangaroo is crafted to impeccable standards and includes several iconic Australian images, the Southern Cross and kangaroo.

Controller of the Royal Australian Mint Dr Vivienne Thom said "Designer Wojciech Pietranik has splendidly captured the grace, power and beauty of the 'big red, certainly one of Australia's most dynamic and powerful symbols. This coin is without doubt a worthy addition to the Mint's highly regarded Kangaroo Series"

A common sight in the Australian bush the Red Kangaroo is capable of immense leaps and standing almost 2 metres tall, this majestic creature is considered one of Australia's most treasured icons.

Beautifully crafted in pure silver with selective gold plating and with a limited mintage of only 12500, demand will be high among those who wish to own this very special coin.
