The Queen Mother 1900-2002 : a celebration of her life

3rd April 2002

The Royal Australian Mint announced today that it will release a special proof coin to commemorate the life of Her Majesty The Queen Mother, who passed away on Saturday 30 March 2002. The coin, a 1oz pure silver coin with a face value of $5.00, is planned for release in the middle of the year.

The Mint has commissioned Stuart Devlin, Geelong-born Jeweller and Goldsmith to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, to prepare the reverse design of the coin. The obverse will feature the standard effigy of the Queen, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley

The coin is being released in celebration of the long life of the Queen Mother - a life that spanned three centuries and the entire period of Australia as a federation.

Further details of the coin will be released closer to the planned release date, in late June or early July.
