Background
Stacy Jo-Ann Paine, a student at Caroline Chisholm High School in Tuggeranong, has won the ACT section of a nation-wide student coin design competition conducted by the Royal Australian Mint, with the cooperation of the National Council for the Centenary of Federation.
On 13 March the student-designed coin will be officially unveiled & released to the public.
Designs by a student from every Australian State and self-governing Territory will be unveiled throughout 2001 as part of the Centenary of Federation celebrations, and all student-designed coins will be released into circulation during the second half of the year. These 20c student-designed coins answer the question 'What is special about your State or Territory?' from a young Australian's perspective. Every coin will bear the student's initials within the design.
Final winning designs were selected by a panel of Federal Ministers:
- Minister for Financial Services & Regulation, The Hon. Joe Hockey MP
- Minister for Arts and the Centenary of Federation, The Hon. Peter McGuaran MP
- Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs, The Hon. Dr David Kemp MP
