Mintmarks for everyone

15 February 1999

In 1999 the Royal Australian Mint is staying loyal to its customers and will continue to produce 1999 $1 mintmark coins for all the usual cities – Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

It has become a tradition for the Mint to take its coin press to shows and fairs in various Australian cities, allowing customers to strike their own coins. Even though the Mint will not attend a show in Adelaide in 1999, South Australian customers and those who collect the whole set of $1 mintmarks need not be disappointed – a $1 ‘A’ mintmark coin will be struck at the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra.

To reflect this, packaging will state ‘Minted for Adelaide’. To maintain consistency, ‘Minted for’ will also be the preamble to

1999 $1 mintmark coins struck in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
