Coins for Year 2000
The Royal Australian Mint has released collector coins dated with the year ‘2000’; one of these is a commemorative fifty-cent coin bearing the Australian flag and the words ‘Millennium Year’, likely to be released into general circulation later in 2000. The transition of millennia has influenced the themes surrounding the 2000 products.

The Millennium Series: The Past
A special coin series, not for general circulation, has been released by the Royal Australian Mint. The Millennium Coin Series comprises three $10 bimetallic coins titled The Past, The Present and The Future, which will be released progressively in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Commemorating Australians on coins
The Royal Australian Mint begins the New Year in style by announcing the release of the new effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, which will appear on circulating coins later in the year. Four new coin collections are also due for release on 1 January 1999.

Changes at the Mint
As always January 1 is change-over day at the Royal Australian Mint. The dies in the coin presses at the Visitors’ Gallery are replaced. Visitors can strike their own $1 coins mint marked with a ‘C’ to denote striking for Canberra.
