Mint's Kangaroo coin a hot contender for "People's Choice" Coin of the Year

20th November 2008

The Royal Australian Mint’s 2009 Kangaroo at Sunset coin has been nominated for Krause Publication’s “People’s Choice” Coin of the Year. The stunning yet simple design has already won the hearts of many avid coin collectors and is up against some tough competition from all around the world.

The kangaroo is recognised all around the world as a true symbol of Australia so it is fitting that Australia’s coin of the year nomination is a kangaroo design.

The public will be voting alongside mint officials, museum curators, medallists and journalist to determine the “People’s Choice” in coinage design. Click on this link to visit the Numismaster website to cast your own vote!

The Coin of the Year awards ceremony will be held at the World Money Fair in Berlin, Germany in February 2009.

Congratulations to coin sculptor Wojciech Pietranik and all others involved with producing this product!
